Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) is a safe, minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure used to treat urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate. Through a small puncture in the femoral artery (groin), a catheter is guided with real-time X-ray imaging to the arteries that supply the prostate. Once in the correct position, biocompatible microspheres are released to block blood flow to the enlarged prostate tissue. As blood supply decreases, the prostate gradually shrinks, resulting in a significant improvement in urinary symptoms. The procedure is performed by interventional radiology specialists in a catheterization laboratory under conscious sedation, avoiding spinal or general anesthesia and ensuring the patient remains relaxed and comfortable throughout.This is an outpatient procedure, with patients monitored for approximately 4 to 6 hours afterward and returning to normal activities within 5 to 7 days.
